THE MIND BEHIND THE OBSERVATIONS
Nicole Gapinski
When I’m not studying or working on creative layouts, I spend my time navigating the classroom as a senior psychology student and working hands-on in the caregiving field. My life is split between academic research, visual design, and real-world human connection. This space is simply where all of those separate worlds finally get to sit in the same room.

I’ve always loved learning why people are the way they are, specifically how experiences, environment, and disorders alter the brain and personality over time. This section is where I connect that fascination with nurture over nature to my actual work in the field. My background includes a senior year in undergraduate psychology, ten years of dementia care, clinical experience with transcranial magnetic stimulation, and years of caring for those with mental and developmental disabilities.

Women and gender studies are a special interest of mine because they help me make sense of complex social issues, leading me to choose it as my undergraduate minor. The field also includes race and diversity studies, which helps me look beyond my own experience as a white woman and better understand people from different backgrounds. I believe it is important and necessary to do this work for those who are mistreated or oppressed. I know that knowledge is powerful, and staying informed helps me stay aware and engaged.

True crime is a special interest for me because it centers on the "why" behind the most extreme aspects of human nature, which inspired me to pursue forensic psychology and criminology in graduate school. This study allows me to examine the psychological roots of behavior alongside systemic issues like rehabilitation and investigative practices. I am drawn to the analytical side of criminology, looking at how personality profiles and social factors collide.

There is something incredible about the way a generation processes its reality through visual storytelling. This deep curiosity about the past and how historical contexts influence artistic expression is what drives my interest in history and art. Rather than just looking at dates and names, I am fascinated by the stories behind the work and how different eras documented their lived experiences.

I have always been drawn to the spaces where culture, religion, and the unknown collide. There is a genuine intrigue in things that exist just outside the ordinary, from the energy of the paranormal and the practice of witchcraft to the deep-rooted nature of legends and fantasy. I am captivated by the mysteries of modern conspiracy theories, superstitions, and the complex psychological dynamics found within religious cults and corrupt literature. Rather than dismissing things that sound out there, I approach these topics with an open mind and a true fascination for the hidden corners of belief and the unexplained.
